Direct Legal Services:

Legal Assistance for Asian American Victims of Domestic Violence

Through the award of an Equal Justice Works Fellowship in 2004, the APALRC was able to launch a project to provide direct legal representation to victims of domestic violence.  The goals of this project include conducting outreach to educate battered immigrants on their rights and the resources available to them, ensuring holistic services by working closely with social service agencies, and providing domestic violence victims with linguistically and culturally appropriate representation on immigration and family law issues.  The project, which started in northern Virginia, has since become a permanent part of the APALRC’s programs.  The program was expanded to serve Maryland residents in 2006.
